CAMY SCULPTURE BANNIERE
LETTER N°16 / SEPTEMBER 2019

Back - to - back

Hello everyone,

In a previous letter, we had a "one to one" , today I'd like to suggest a back-to back !
This year , several exhibitions have spotlighted the back and in a various ways.
So, the back has an austere aspect with the Danish painter Hammershoi at Jacquemart Museum, it is magnified in the back-side exhibition at the Bourdelle Museum, and eroticised in the Orient of the painters exhibition at the Marmottan Museum...
the back is a great talker and it's a part of the body that I enjoy working a lot.

THE BACK IS A GREAT TALKER

The back escapes control and speaks without lying, it is sincere and without a mask.
It's hard to see one's own back...
It expresses the full range of emotions; strength , weakness, tiredeness, suffering, sensuality...and it is a magnificent workspace for a sculptor !
That's why I like working with volume so much.
The points of view are innumerable, the light plays on different surfaces and while it is usual to exhibit a sculpture with a frontalview, I'm more than happy to turn the piece and show it from the back !
